Dakota’s Story

Upper page: Success Stories

dakotaMy name is Sue Lipp and Stephanie has asked me to write some about Dakota, our new 18 month old rescue.

Let’s start at the beginning.

In 1996 we bought our first vizsla as a family dog.  Dodger  was a high energy (aren’t they all) boy.  He taught us many games.  One of his favorites was Keep Away.  We had many laughs over this and his other antics.  When Dodger was 7 1/2 years old he developed lymphoma.  The vet offered that chemo may get us 6 months to 1 year. He was truly a miracle dog as when he left us he was 12 1/2 years old.

In January I called Stephanie to inquire about rescues.  Time went on and one Wednesday evening I got in touch again.  Good news.  She knew Diane S. in Pennsylvania who may know of a male in need of a home.  I called Diane and she told me about Dakota.  Well, things happened fast at that point.  I called the owner in Philadelphia and within 24 hours we picked Dakota up.  He is truly a beautiful boy.  Our intention was to foster Dakota because this breed has brought so much joy to our lives and we wanted to return some of that love.  We brought him home and let him in our fully fenced back yard.  He immediately found the doggie door and went into the house.  The next thing I hear from my husband is that Dakota was coming back into our yard over the 5 ft chain link fence.  Thus began our challenge of trying to keep him at home.  We finally have solved that problem by installing an electric horse fence on the top of the chain link.  He has stayed home since then.

Dakota is truly a loveable addition to our home.   He  is a  velcro vizsla and a 50 lb lap dog.  He gets along with well Rozzi, our 11 year old female vizsla.  They romp and play all day. I am not sure Rozzi really wants this much exercise but she keeps up.

He loves to go to the dog park in our area and is very respectful of the other dogs.  He also loves the farmer’s market on Saturdays as well as just riding in the car.

He has wormed his way into our hearts as well as our bed.  He makes us laugh.  We are blessed with this addition to our family.
