Whiskey

Our story starts with Stephanie Fischer. Ten years ago Stephanie was running the Vizsla Club of Long Island and brought us Coco - the center and love of our lives. A couple of years ago I started thinking about a second dog. There were dogs Stephanie and other groups worked to place in the right home but I didn’t feel a connection.

Until I saw Whiskey.

I truly felt in my heart we were his family. I reached out to Stephanie who immediately responded. That began our constant daily communication for weeks – her understanding what our home was like now; helping us understand where Whiskey was coming from; working with the other family who made this incredible selfless decision to find Whiskey another home and of course making certain this would be right for Coco too.

This adoption was very different for us as before we didn’t already have a dog. Stephanie walked us through the process before, during and after the meet and greet up through the weeks after we brought Whiskey home. We had a concern there may have been a health issue with Whiskey. Stephanie not only offered the financial support of the rescue group if needed but communicated directly with my vet on speakerphone during our dr visit to make certain all was OK.

The connection between Coco and Whiskey was instant and continues to grow. Coco is acting years younger and they play for hours during the day-tug of war being their favorite. Whiskey watches Coco to see where she will lay in the bed and then he finds a spot. He watches her to see how she behaves when someone comes to the house. He always waits for her to get the treat first and then takes his.

Whiskey is funny, mischievous and has the boundless energy of a puppy. Whiskey starts the day at 100 mph. He never stops talking and at night when he lays down-he will sigh for about 5 seconds signaling the gas is out of the tank! Not a day goes by that he doesn’t bring us laughter.

I have to mention how special the lifelong connections are for those that help rescue/adopt our Vizslas. They working tirelessly to make certain the family and home are the right match. Whiskey was quite a distance away and within an hour Stephanie found us another Vizsla owner, Diane who was an equal distance between us. Diane owns the most beautiful farm with her own gorgeous and accomplished Vizslas. We met Whiskey there with Coco for our introduction. A couple of weeks later we met Diane at her Vizsla’s friend’s house – Keith & Ellie. They welcomed us into their beautiful home and what a sight to see Whiskey & Coco and the other Vizsla playing. While there is something so special about a Vizsla – the same can be said for those in the Vizsla community.

So our center has grown and we now have two loves of our lives. Our family is so blessed and we are in such a place of gratitude.
